METAL AND CLEAR BRACES

Both metal and clear braces are available in most cases. Your braces will consist of stainless steal bands that encircle the back teeth, or molars, and brackets that are like handles that hold the archwire in place. They are attached to the teeth with a special dental glue. Small elastic rings fasten the archwire to the braces. bracesThese rings, called "elastic ties", are colored, clear, and even glow in the dark and are usually changed at each appointment. The bands and the brackets are the fixed or nonmoving parts of the appliance. Once they are placed properly on the teeth, they don't move. The archwires are the moving part of the mechanism. These are changed periodically to apply the proper force to guide the teeth into alignment. The forces exerted by today's modern wires are more consistent than wires of even five years ago. This means that braces are more comfortable and require fewer appointments than in the past.
