Concerns:
Adult with skeletal Class III underbite due to retrusion of
the upper jaw. Upper jaw is narrow. Lower jaw is in normal position.
Patient has full underbite with traumatic anterior bite. There
is a posterior crossbite due to a narrow palate.
Treatment:
Comprehensive Orthodontics (braces) in conjunction with corrective
jaw surgery to move upper jaw forward and widen palate. Total
Treatment time = 25 months.
Concerns:
Adult with severe crowding and rotations. Patient has an asymmetric
bite and anterior tooth trauma as well as an underbite.
Treatment:
Comprehensive Orthodontics. Total Treatment time = 27 months.
Concerns:
Adolescent with a narrow palate leading to a bilateral posterior
cross-bite/traumatic bite. Patient has a narrow smile. There
is severe crowding and a lateral open-bite. There is an underbite
tendency.
Treatment:
Comprehensive Orthodontics with palatal expansion. Total Treatment
time = 29 months (two phases of treatment).
Concerns:
Adult with a narrow palate leading to bilateral posterior cross-bite
and traumatic bite. There is an anterior open-bite with no anterior
tooth function. Patient has moderate crowding. There is TMJ
unloading of jaw joints due to fulcrum bite. An adaptive
tongue thrust exists.
Treatment:
Patient was treated without any corrective jaw surgery via non-surgical
palatal expansion along with comprehensive orthodontics (braces).
Total Treatment time = 19 months.
Concerns:
Adolescent with lower jaw/chin retrusion (skeletal). The upper
cuspids are blocked from eruption. There is significant crowding.
Treatment:
Comprehensive orthodontics with skeletal growth modification
using functional herbst appliance. Herbst was used instead of
headgear to 1) create space for blocked upper cuspids, and 2)
to accentuate lower jaw forward growth (see profile change).
Total Treatment Time = 23 months.
